Hypnotherapy

  • In 1955 the British Medical Association issued a report stating that hypnosis was a valuable medical tool.
  • In 1958 the American Medical Association recognised hypnosis as a viable scientific modality.
  • In 1962 the American Psychiatric Association recognised that hypnosis was a viable modality to treat some psychological problems.

Hypnotherapy is the application of hypnosis in counselling, therapy and clinical setting. The use of hypnotic trance and posthypnotic suggestions can be used to help clients with many problems such as stress related conditions. Hypnotherapy can also be successfully used to help people break many of their unwanted habits, eg smoking. It is also starting to be used as a therapy of choice in a number of non-organic conditions such as infertility, and organic based conditions, such as pain relief. Hypnosis is a psychological state, experienced as an altered state of consciousness, similar to a meditative state, daydreaming or deep relaxation. It is completely natural, safe and is experienced by most people daily.
